Emerge Global, November, 2009

Dearest Friends,

Emerge continues to grow and thrive, particularly due to the efforts of our incredible team in the field (to follow their progress, see: www.emergeglobal.org/fieldblog/). The attached update ("October in Review") will give you a taste of all that has been happening within our Emerge community. We will begin to send out monthly updates such as this one on the first Monday of every month. I welcome your ideas and responses, as we are all so excited to have you as part of our growing story. Get ready for November's update in about a week!

Below are a couple of announcements that I thought you would enjoy:

Volunteers Build Emerge Global
Aaron Schmidt and Sheena Hembrador recently wrapped up a month of volunteering for Emerge Global in Sri Lanka. They worked extensively on curriculum development and standardizing our systems for maintaining supplies and jewelry inventory. One of the most exciting developments was a "fake bank" and "emerge store" where girls can learn about budgeting, taking inventory, and basic financial skills. Sheena recently posted a blog about her experience here: emergeglobal.org/fieldblog/2008/11/what-month.html . The field blog is updated weekly with stories, thoughts, and ideas from our enthusiastic team in Sri Lanka so be sure to check it out!

April Wachtel, our newest full-time volunteer, arrived this month in Sri Lanka. She will serve as our Sri Lanka Program Development Officer. April, we are so excited to have you as a part of our team! To learn more about April, see: emergeglobal.org/fieldblog/2008/11/april-wachtel-heads-to-sri-lanka.html
