The Cyberspace Universel is a place to share and celebrate awakening to greater life through the arts. If you wish to share a work of visual art, please contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Our first entry is offered by Diane Aziza Archer in her mixed media work "Three Wishes". Diane shares some of her life, work and intentions with us in the following:
I am lucky enough to live and work on the Oregon Coast. I was born and spent most of my life in Ohio, where I received a BFA from The University of Akron, and an MFA from Kent State University. A residency at the Sitka Center for Art and Ecology brought me to Oregon in 1999.
In my recent mixed media work, I am exploring emotional and physical aspects of place. I am endeavoring to capture an event, an experience or a realization, using elements of time (solar system charts, moon phases) and place (maps, collected items or "relics") combined with relevant quotes, drawings, graphic images and symbolic objects or materials. The paper maps are stained with dyes I make from native materials, or something relevant to the idea. The dyed paper is then coated with four or more layers of acrylic as protection from sun and dirt. Found objects are coated with acrylic and/or wax.
Sometimes I work with individuals and groups to create uniquely personal art by combining relevant maps, imagery, mementos, collections, and sacred objects. Recent commissioned pieces celebrate and commemorate significant places, events, experiences and/or relationships for my clients.
All of my work, regardless of form, is meant to acknowledge and celebrate our connections to the world around us and the world within us. I believe that the most important issue of our time is the task of seeing our world and all things in it as an inter-connected whole, of which the human species is but one small part.
