The Three Faces of God, Presented by Himayat Inayati
Asheville, North Carolina - Odyssey School
"Neither is the Sufi's God abstract nor is He personal. It is all a process, through which the Sufi goes from the false to the real self. And before he arrives at the real self, his false self must be made a sacrifice. Before what? Before the ideal God he has made in his own self. When his false self is
sacrificed then he goes further. Then it is not a personal God, then it is the abstract God. But where does one begin, and where does one end? One begins from the false self and ends in the real self."
Hazrat Inayat Khan, 1926.
Today In the post-modern era humanity mostly relates to the absolute condition of God - or to the highest Self to be awakened within the individual. These relationships offer tremendous resource for humanity has a collective, and for each individual, particularly in the difficult times we presently experience. However, to a large degree the third face of God, (The Personal Lord) has been dropped as irrelevant to post-modern thinking. Through stories, practices, and presentation of Sufi teaching, Himayat will lead us in a two day intensive to carefully explore the relevance and meaning of all three faces of God - and how each of these three faces offers us tremendous support, life, and clarification in life.
Himayat has been a member of the Sufi Order International since 1972, receiving the sacred transmission of Pir Vilayat Inayat Khan and Murshid Samuel Lewis. Himayat was the international head of The Sufi Healing Order for twenty years. He has been a catalytic figure in the on-going dialogue between science, spirituality, and healing – organizing twenty-six conferences in support of this dialogue. The founder of The Raphaelite Work, a method of healing and transformational process rooted in Sufism and updated by modern psychology and body work, Himayat has taught mysticism and spirituality in fourteen different countries. He is the founder of Universal Awakening, www.universal- awakening.org. Himayat's teaching is lucid, accessible, and humorous, orienting the ancient mystical teaching of the major world spiritual traditions toward solutions of contemporary issues.
